Organic Standards
We grow "beyond organic." As of 2002 certified organic standards have been lowered in an attempt to fit more agribusiness into the organic market. We maintain higher standards and do not subscribe to this faulty system.
The term "organic" is prescribed by the NOP (National Organic Program) for certified farmers and restricted from all other farmers even if they exceed the NOP standards.
We encourage you to know your farmer in order to know you are getting the best possible products.
We use absolutely no GMO products. We avoid all soy and corn products because it is hard to say if any are truly non-GMO. Some of our farming practices include use of organic seed, crop rotation, cover cropping, integrated pest management, compost and compost tea, organic fertilizers (mostly local Aslakan products), human powered broad forking to minimize disruption of microbial life, and soil testing as a means to monitor the balance of nutrients and maximize organic matter and the cation exchange.
